Choose fibreglass if you work anywhere near electricity, because it doesn't conduct. Choose aluminium for everything else, because it is lighter, cheaper and easier to carry.
Aluminium ladders
- Good for: general DIY, decorating, gutters, building work.
- Pros: lightweight, strong, won't rust, lower cost.
- Cons: conducts electricity; can dent if knocked.
Fibreglass ladders
- Good for: electricians, and any work near live cables or equipment.
- Pros: non-conductive (our Trade Master Pro fibreglass steps are rated to 30,000V), strong, resists weather.
- Cons: heavier, costs more; can crack or splinter if badly damaged, and should be stored out of strong sunlight.
Which lasts longer?
Both last for many years if they are checked, cleaned and stored properly. Replace any ladder that is bent, cracked or damaged.
