Store ladders somewhere dry, off the ground and supported along their length, so they stay straight and safe to use.
Choose the right place
- A dry, ventilated garage, shed or workshop is best. Aluminium won't rust, so it can be stored outside under a cover, but out of the weather is better.
- Keep ladders away from heat, chemicals and direct sunlight, which can damage feet, fibreglass and wood.
- Store them where they can't be used by children or taken by thieves. Lock them if they are outside.
How to store them
- Clean off paint, mud and grease.
- Close the ladder fully and lock any hinges or catches.
- Hang it horizontally on wall brackets that support the stile in at least two places, or lay it flat on a level surface.
- Don't store anything heavy on top of it, and don't hang it from a single rung.
- Store the stabiliser bar and any accessories with the ladder.
Wooden ladders
Don't paint wooden ladders. Paint can hide cracks and defects. A clear preservative is fine.
