A roof ladder lies flat on a pitched roof and hooks over the ridge, giving you a safe foothold. You reach it using a leaning ladder. Only use one if the job can't be done from the ground or a tower.
Before you start
- Check the roof pitch suits your roof ladder. Our 2 Section Professional Roof Ladder works from 25° to 45°.
- Never use a roof ladder on a flat roof, as a leaning ladder, or as a bridge.
- Check the weather and the condition of the roof.
- Have a second person with you.
Steps
- Set up a leaning ladder at 75°, secured at the top or bottom. It should extend at least 3 rungs above the roof edge for a handhold.
- If your roof ladder extends, set it to length on the ground first.
- Carry the roof ladder up the leaning ladder, wheels down, and push it up the roof on its wheels.
- At the ridge, turn it over so the ridge hook sits over the ridge and the bearers rest on the roof.
- Check the hook is fully engaged before stepping onto the roof ladder.
- Move between ladders carefully, keeping three points of contact.
