Most people can fit one of our loft ladders themselves with basic tools and a helper. If you would rather not, a local carpenter, joiner or handyman can fit it for you. We don't offer a fitting service.
Fitting it yourself is usually fine if
- your hatch opening is already the right size for the ladder, and
- you're comfortable using a drill and working in the loft, and
- you have a second person to help.
The Concertina is the quickest to fit because it arrives assembled. Sliding ladders take a little longer. Wooden loft ladders take the most work because they fit into a new frame.
Consider a fitter if
- the hatch needs enlarging, or joists or trusses need cutting or trimming,
- you need a new hatch frame built, or
- you're fitting a fire-rated hatch or have a loft conversion that must meet Building Regulations.
Getting a quote
When asking for a quote, tell the fitter the model, your hatch size and ceiling height, and send them the instructions (linked from How to fit a loft ladder). Costs vary by area and job, so get more than one quote.
