Answers to the questions we are asked most about our scaffold towers.
What is the difference between working height and platform height?
Platform height is the height of the platform you stand on. Working height is roughly how high you can reach from it, about 2m above the platform. Tower height is the height to the top of the guardrails.
Which towers are suitable for site use?
The 3T, AGR, 8-Rung, Fold Out, One Man and Stair towers are certified to BS EN 1004 and suitable for site use. The Trade Master Professional is also BS EN 1004 certified. Home Master, Premium and Premium Plus DIY towers are for home and occasional use.
Can I use a tower on uneven ground?
- 3T, AGR, 8-Rung, One Man and Stair towers: yes, with up to 250mm of adjustment on each leg.
- Fold Out tower: yes, with the optional adjustable legs (up to 250mm).
- Trade Master Professional: yes, the wheels adjust as standard (up to 200mm).
- Premium and Premium Plus DIY: yes, with the leg height adjustment kit (up to 200mm).
Can I use a tower on a staircase?
Only the Stair Scaffold Tower is designed for stairs. The other towers can't be levelled on steps, and the DIY towers' 1.2m stabiliser bars are wider than most domestic stairs.
How many people can work on the platform?
- 3T, AGR and 8-Rung: more than one person is possible as long as the 275kg platform rating is not exceeded. A double-width tower gives more room.
- All other towers: we recommend one person at a time. The One Man Tower is for one person only. DIY towers are rated 150kg; the Trade Master platform 230kg.
Can I make my tower taller later?
- 3T, AGR and 8-Rung: up to 14.2m working height.
- Stair tower: up to 7.3m platform height.
- Trade Master Professional: up to 9.1m with extension kits.
- Home Master, Premium and Premium Plus DIY: a 2m kit takes a 4m tower to 6m or a 5m tower to 7m. Not beyond 7m.
- Fold Out: call us and we'll tell you what you need.
- One Man Tower: no, it comes in one size only.
See Extending or upgrading your DIY scaffold tower.
Do I need outriggers or stabilisers?
Yes, whenever the manual says so for your height, and always outdoors or on exposed sites. Industrial towers include outriggers from 4.2m (single width) or 4.7m (double width). The Premium Plus DIY must have all 4 outriggers fitted when used on its wheels. Home Master and Premium DIY towers must always be used with their stabiliser bars.
Can I split one tower into two smaller towers?
For 3T, AGR and 8-Rung towers, often yes if you add parts. Call us with your sizes. The Fold Out tower can't be split because its base unit is fixed.
Can I buy replacement parts?
Yes. Industrial tower parts are usually in stock for next-working-day delivery. Parts for DIY, Trade Master and One Man towers are not all on the website, so call us. See How to order a spare part.
What size is the tube?
The industrial, Fold Out, One Man and Stair towers use 50.8mm diameter aluminium tube.
